Visually Impaired Preschool Services (VIPS) assists children who are blind or sight-impaired. This 8,000 s.f. addition more than doubled the size of the existing facility. Color and textures were critical in the design of the spaces. The addition included three Child Care rooms, a Technology Room, Braille Room, Sensory Room and a child-size Kitchen. The main space is called “Kidstown” and is designed as a small town square. There is a bakery, bank, library, eye-doctor’s office, fast-food restaurant and a grocery so that the children can learn how to use these facilities in real life.
